Since 21 January 2026 the Home Edition follows the redesigned TOEFL iBT. Section order is fixed: Reading, then Listening, then Writing, then Speaking. Reading and Listening are multistage adaptive, so your stage 1 performance sets your stage 2 difficulty. Writing and Speaking are not adaptive. There is no scheduled break. At home system and room requirements
Equipment failure on test day usually means you cannot test, with no refund or free reschedule. Rehearse on the same computer, network, and room you will use. You need a desktop or laptop only, Windows 11 plus or Mac OS X 10.13 plus on a licensed system, one monitor and one keyboard, internal or external speakers and microphone with no headsets, and a movable webcam for the 360 degree room scan.
Install the TOEFL Test App from your ETS account and pass every Equipment Check, including bandwidth. ETS lists a second camera if applicable. If your appointment requires one, use a charged smartphone or tablet running iOS 12 or later or Android 8 or later, with stable internet and a sturdy support. Bring a physical original government ID with photo and signature. Your ETS account name must match it. Digital and phone IDs are generally not accepted, so confirm your country's list on the ETS ID page before test day. You may use one small whiteboard or one blank sheet in a transparent protector with an erasable marker only, and you erase both sides when the proctor asks at the end.
Stay alone in the room for the full session with ears and face visible. No food or drink, no talking outside Speaking, no unscheduled breaks.
