Results, validity, and retakes
Most results arrive within 48 hours after Speaking when no discrepancy is found, and over 48 hours means contacting Oxford ELLT through the website form. Oxford ELLT FAQ With Express the target is about 12 working hours in UK business hours, though passport verification can still delay release.
Your certificate shows OIDI levels 0 to 12 per skill with the overall as the equal weight average, mapped to CEFR and IELTS equivalents from 3.0 to 9.0.
If one skill misses your offer, a single Skill Retake per licence may fix it: Reading, Listening, or Writing and Speaking together, since Writing feeds the Speaking assessment and must be retaken jointly. Skill Retake policy You have 10 days after release to pay and a further non extendable 10 day licence to complete it, and the replacement score can fall, so confirm your university accepts retake certificates first. You may take the full test up to three times in total, including your first sitting. Buy a new licence for each full retake. Oxford ELLT FAQ
Confirm retake acceptance first
Not every course treats a Skill Retake certificate the same as a full test certificate. Check your exact offer conditions before paying for a retake module.
Per skill preparation checklist
Reading gives you two texts of 400 to 600 words in 40 minutes, scored out of 32. Practise with pairs of mid length articles: skim each for structure first, then scan for detail, since the clock punishes slow re reads. Oxford ELLT FAQ
Listening runs 25 minutes with three recordings and 24 questions, 8 per recording, scored out of 24. Oxford plays the monologue once, then the dialogue twice, then the three speaker analysis twice, after 1 minute to read the questions. Train under those exact replay rules with notes you cannot pause. ELLT test takers page
Writing is one essay you cannot reopen once submitted, so split whatever clock the portal shows roughly 10 percent planning, 80 percent writing, 10 percent proofreading. One timing conflict to know: the FAQ budgets 1 hour for the Writing block while the test-takers page describes a 45-minute, 190 to 260 word opinion essay, so confirm the current timing in your portal before test day. ELLT test takers page
Because the essay vanishes on submit, jot brief notes about your arguments the moment you finish: the Speaking interview quizzes you on that same essay.
Speaking has four parts: ID check and introduction, a short presentation prepared beforehand, discussion of your Writing, and a visual-prompt discussion. Follow the current portal instructions for the presentation; do not assume an unseen text or a fixed 45-second preparation window. Oxford's test-taker page describes a 20 to 30 minute interview. Rehearse answering aloud in 2 to 3 minute turns without reading prepared scripts, since reading answers aloud is flagged. If the live interview is the part you fear most, we prepare it with you before test day.
Skill by skill prep
- Reading: two texts, 40 minutes, practise structure first then detail
- Listening: 25 minutes, monologue once, dialogue and analysis twice each
- Writing: one essay, split time roughly 10 percent plan, 80 percent write, 10 percent proofread
- Speaking: live Zoom interview in four parts; follow portal presentation instructions
- Remember your essay topic for the Speaking discussion, but bring no notes into Zoom
